For the Mangshi Village New Year update in QQ Sanguo, TiMi asked us to compose the main festive theme for the celebration in Yunnan’s Mangshi region. Designed to loop seamlessly in-game, the music needed to be a catchy, joyful centerpiece, embodying the spirit of the Water Splashing Festival and bringing the village square to life.
The soundtrack draws from Yunnan’s ethnic musical traditions, with the cucurbit flute (葫芦丝 Hulusi) as the lead instrument, recorded by Ni Kaihong—a national award-winning musician and cultural ambassador of Dehong. His performance gave the piece its unique regional authenticity.
Our creative process focused on the theme of water, shaping the music around its fluid and festive qualities. From percussion to instrument articulations, every element was designed to feel wet, playful, and energetic, heightening the sense of celebration.

QQ Sanguo (QQ三国) is a vibrant MMORPG developed by Tencent, inspired by the historical Three Kingdoms period of China. Players choose between the Wei, Shu, or Wu factions, embark on quests, level up their characters, and engage in strategic, large-scale PvP and PvE battles.
